Hybrid Disappear Here, remixes

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

When Hybrid released Disappear Here a few months ago, it fell slightly below my expecatations. It’s a great album to listen to at home with wonderful, rich orchestrals, but it didn’t have dancefloor or live performance stand-out in my view. So it’s great to see this latest batch of remixes of the title track, disappear here.

Disappear Here – Trance remixes

Maor Levi – this is the best trance remix and probably my favourite all together tance treatment.

Andy Moor has done two mixes, the ecomix and a dub, and while good, neither bkows my socks off. The Dub has no vocal, and the ecomix cheeses it up a bit too much, but only a little bit. Although I’d love to see what it would do to a dancefloor; good things I think.

Disappear Here – Progressive mixes

Hybrid Soundsystem. Most Hybrid stuff, Disappear Here included is made for progressive house and breaks lovers, so it’s no surpruse this is where the tune works best. It’s full of classic hybrid twists and details. A slight air of menace in the riff, great production and an awesome breakdown.

Antix Mix. Weaker of the prog remixes for me, but still very listenable. I’m just not sure about the vocal snippets.

Disappear Here – Breaks

Losers remix. Losers remix really doesn’t cut it for me; far too down tempo and a bit slow for the first two mins before it gets going properly. When it does get going it’s messy and a bit rough around the edges.

Orchestral Armchair Version. This very downtempo version appeared on a few of the early album lauches and really demonstrates what Hybrid do best; epic orchestrals, with great crossover appeal.

This great DJ mix by Hybrid has never been too far from the top of my iphone playlist for literally the last six months. I last listened to it on a plane trip to Spain and it left me feeling thoroughly smiley and in the mood for a break.

There’s no track list on the Hybridized site, so you’re buggered if you want any of the tracks. The second tune is ace, really like it; and the funny up-and-down female vocal in the third track is really cool.

Hybrid are my favourite act that I’ve never seen. I’ve been at festivals where they’ve played, and, usually in the car home, have kicked myself for missing them, but they’re totally on the MUST SEE list.

Here’s the Hybridized link

For once, there’s literally no point posting a track list, they’re all un-released, just enjoy it.

Dino Lenny – Cocaine 2009 – Flying

Alarmingly this is the second track in ten posts which makes reference to coke, however let not it’s naughty content detract from what an excellent record this is.  I first heard it on a guest mix on Digitally Imported and had to find out more.  The late 80′s version of Cocaine, is a classic piano riff, looped vocal masterpiece, the type of stuff pirate radio stations of the times went mad for.

The 09 update is a progressive house monster great driving bassline with a really warm rhythm.  The ‘cocaine’ vocal is sampled well and the tune gathers pace nice an quickly without ever overdoing the layering.   The use of the documentary style vocal reminded me of the kind of mid 90′s trance you’d hear on albums like Northern Exposure, and the whole track has a slightly late 90′s feel about it.  In terms of breakdown the orchestrals build really nicely into a hybrid-esque airy crescendo and the under-stated beat kicks back in.   Excellent tune and definitely one I’ll be mixing next time I’ve been on a downloading spree.

Dino Lenny’s been all over the whole scene for years, but I’ve owned surprisingly few of his tracks.  The other track I’d heard from Dino Lenny for quite some time is the Marco V remix of Feels Like Home which features the great sample from Felix’s ‘Don’t you want my love‘- as this track’s been remixed and sampled a million times I’ve linked to my favourite version which is Red Jerry Holiday Remix,  the track was originally released in in 1989 by Jomanda
