DJ Spoke – Infinity, Ignition & Watch them fall down – PSR & Bigstar

Monday, March 30th, 2009

I bought this track during the Tidy Weekender in 2003 and it was a real grower, that never really seemed to pick up on dancefloors.

DJ Spoke is the king of the breakdown, and was a particular favourite of of the 2003-6 sound favoured by Tidy Two.  I’ve kind of grown out of this genre of music and it sometimes sounds a bit under-produced, but I have to confess I still give it a play now and again.

For a Swiss bloke DJ Spoke’s done a load of cool tracks and remixes.  Apparently he did his parties above lake  Lausanne in Switzerland, which despite being freezing I’m sure would’ve been a blast, I wonder whether Swiss really ‘ave it’, and what the Swiss authorities make of it.  Since we all decided hard trance was shit, Spoke seems to have got a bit more proggy, which we all know to be God’s own music, the best thing to happen to trance and the reason dance music was invented (well for now).

Infinity’s breakdown synths in particular really get me.  That kind of airy synth doesn’t get enough of an airing these days, but I’m sure they’ll make a comeback at some point.

This track is a prime candidate for an update in my view.

Ignition – is really a lesson in a massive, almost over the top, breakdown.  It lasts well over a minute and I’d love to hear it played at a hard trance tribute type party.  In addition to a whoosy breakdown this track also boasts a little break-beaty bit towards the end which was always fun to have a play around with mid-mix.

As for the label, I’ve not seen anything on PSR for ages, but Spoke is alive and well on Big Star.  Check out Spoke’s myspanner for more.

Watch them fall down, has some very Hybrid influenced orchestrals, and the Montano Dub, is pretty damn decent
